January’s here!

Hooray for the new year! New beginnings, etc., etc. I failed NaBloPoMo in the middle of December, and it felt great. XD Well, not the failing part, but knowing I managed to blog for 48 days straight. [The fool in me started a few days before the November NaBloPoMo and continued on until December.]

I hope I’ll end up wiser by the end of 2010. That’s the only thing I want. :) Here’s hoping everyone who comes across this thing has a good year… *fingers crossed*

Gah!

Rickrolling “Maude Clare”

// September 15th, 2008 // 2 Comments » // Internet, NaBloPoMo, Random

Whilst in class and talking about the different viewpoints of people analysing the poem “Maude Clare” by Christina Rossetti, I realised that although we could discuss how a feminist and a historian viewed the poem differently, Rick Astley’s viewpoint was another matter entirely. My annotations were soon filled with song lyrics… Oops!

I don’t think Christina Rossetti would be too impressed with me, but the original poem can be viewed here.

Maude Clare was no stranger to love
Lord Thomas knew the rules and still he lied
A full commitment’s what she was thinking of
She wouldn’t get this from any other guy

She just wanted to tell him how jilted she was feeling
Gotta make Nell understand

Lord Thomas gave her up
Lord Thomas let her down
Lord Thomas ran around and deserted her
Lord Thomas made her cry
Lord Thomas said goodbye
Lord Thomas told a lie and hurt her

They had known each other for so long
Her heart was aching but she was too shy to say it
Inside they both knew what’s been going on
They knew the game and they were gonna play it

And if Nell asks her how she’s feeling
Don’t tell her you’re too blind to see

Lord Thomas gave her up
Lord Thomas let her down
Lord Thomas ran around and deserted her
Lord Thomas made her cry
Lord Thomas said goodbye
Lord Thomas told a lie and hurt her

Gave her up, gave her up
Gave her up, gave her up
Lord Thomas gave her up
Gave her up, gave her up
Lord Thomas gave her up
Gave her up, gave her up

She just wanted to tell him how jilted she was feeling
Gotta make Nell understand

Lord Thomas gave her up
Lord Thomas let her down
Lord Thomas ran around and deserted her
Lord Thomas made her cry
Lord Thomas said goodbye
Lord Thomas told a lie and hurt her

Lord Thomas gave her up
Lord Thomas let her down
Lord Thomas ran around and deserted her
Lord Thomas made her cry
Lord Thomas said goodbye
Lord Thomas told a lie and hurt her

Lord Thomas gave her up
Lord Thomas let her down
Lord Thomas ran around and deserted her
Lord Thomas made her cry
Lord Thomas said goodbye
Lord Thomas told a lie and hurt her

Geekiness Prevails

I love geeky terms. For instance, I can spend ages talking about CSS elements that won’t render properly in a certain crap browser to many of my online friends.
This is stating the obvious, but methinks one should avoid discussing – or even mentioning – computer-related terms with our less tech-savvy acquaintances, even in moments of weakness.

For one thing, humans are naturally curious…

Natalia: Feeling any better?
[I was whining about feeling tired earlier]

Me: I’m looking at random crap about MySQL databases, which is waking me right up.
Natalia: Uh… What is MySQL?

… And if you try to explain, they still won’t have any idea what you’re talking about.

Lulu: I keep talking to my mum about chkdsk.
“Oh, I could check it…”
“NOOO, MUM, IT’S NOT CHECK DESK, IT’S C-H-K-D-S-K!”
Me: …A.K.A. *headdesk* :g_doh:

Basically…

FAIL!
